Get four students to the front of the class. One from each team.Â
Get them to stand in front of the board facing the class.
Read out words from the two categories on the board.
When you say a ‘DOWN’ word they must sit down. When you say an ‘UP’ word they can stand up. If they are already sat down or standing, they must stay still.
If they flinch, sit or stand at the wrong time they are out. Carry on until you have a winner. Give out points for the order they came in.
Get four new students and repeat.Â

Incorporate additional physical movements, such as jumping or clapping, when students need to change their position, adding a dynamic element to the game.
Use sound effects or music cues for ‘UP’ and ‘DOWN’ words to make the game more engaging and help students react more quickly.
Mix different categories of words (e.g., animals, foods) and switch between them to increase complexity and maintain interest.
